Amy Swinehouse — Did You Not See

The ‘Did you not see’ 2023 demo is Amy Swinehouse’s first release. Award Winning Records is proud to present the re-master of this demo, with an overall hotter mix, for extra loud in-your-face grind.

Thanks to…

Amy would like to thank all who helped make this release a reality: Abarus for the squeaks, Matteo for the rumbles, Rien for the vocals — I love all y’all!

Extra special thanks goes out to Andi, my invaluable discussion partner, who keeps solidarity and democracy unflinchingly and unmarred at the forefront of our conversations. Cheers, you stubborn motherfucker!

Alternative cover art

In the process of designing the cover, I asked several artists to create a cover based off a short brief. I ended up not using this image for the cover, but I feel it deserves an honorable mention, as it is damn good.

Amy’s Artist Manifesto

Complacent we are. In a world of convenient capitalist ignorance. Complicit we are. In a world where awareness is only a gesture away, you still choose not to see.

We rather act out our fantasy realities on social media. For all to see, while the world burns down around us. Using the light inside us for nothing but inane product placements. Passively letting the lunatics run the asylum. They appease by providing a rubber-stamped identity behind which we can forget our agency. That is not freedom, that is failure.

Doing nothing is never an option. In the times ahead, people will do stupid shit, under duress for which no one is to blame. Afraid of what’s coming, and rightfully so. Yet, instead of retreating into our luxurious fantasy, into ourselves, or into an idealized abstract idea of what we are, we need to face reality as it actually is: A lot of people are going to have a very bad time in the coming years, completely beyond anyone’s control or fault.

As Occidentals in our proverbial luxury resort, we should know that change is coming. Our habits will no longer be sustainable. Many people will be in need. Closing the door on them is not the right thing to do, no matter what those arsefaces in the idiot box tell you, or how many tiny text-vomits you read: Fear is not the way forward.

It is sickening, this ‘acceptable’ fascism in media and politics all over the western world. All of this, because some old people are afraid they might lose a bit of holy property. What’s even worse, the generation after them is copy-mouthing these ridiculous ideas — They’ve been fucked so hard, they can’t even feel themselves bleeding out.

This is our world, our only world, going to hell by the hands of very few. Stop being led by the nose. Let’s show some initiative and respect for this beautiful world we share. We only have one, and there’s definitely no respawns in this shitty version of reality.

So before we decide to dismiss environmental activists, why don’t we join them instead. Let’s show some courage against the ruling conservative order. Because that order is turning into fascism —right fucking now— while we’re standing on the sidelines.

We all need to focus on our solidarity, compassion and responsibility.

No one is coming to help us, but us.
